The purpose of this six week Cognitive Analytic (CAT) Anger Management Programme is for those individuals and couples who want to control their anger and express themselves effectively. What you will learn is practical techniques to develop a sense of control in being calm and discharge your anger appropriately. You will look at the causes of your anger and uncover the most effective ways for you to manage this painful emotion and communicate this effectively.

To achieve maximum effectiveness, the programme is conducted on either a one-to-one basis or with a couple so that individuals can feel free enough to ask any questions, comment freely and master the key skills.

Course Overview

Week One

• What is this word anger?
• How do you assess and understand your anger
• Understand the style of anger you use in relating to yourself and others
• Designing your relational map to assist in addressing your anger
• The identification and development of clean and unclean anger
• Tasks for change: various exercises to assist in anger management

Week Two

• Analysis and discussion of anger management exercises from week one
• Learn how to express yourself assertively not aggressively with others/within the couple
• Realistic and effective steps to controlling and managing your anger
• Practical problem solving using Cognitive Analytic Therapy
• Tasks for change: various exercises to assist in anger management

Week Three

• Analysis and discussion of anger management exercises from weeks one and two
• Understanding your relational style and how this impacts relationships, both individually and in a couple
• Advanced communication skills: learning about what traps, dilemmas and snags your anger places you in
• Recognising, understanding and avoiding anger ‘games’
• Tasks for change: various exercises to assist in anger management

Week Four

• Analysis and discussion of anger management exercises from weeks one through to three
• Recognising and understanding the role of negative automatic thoughts and sabotaging thoughts
• Cognitive Analytic re-organisation: new effective ways to think and respond
• Tasks for change: various exercises to assist in anger management

Week Five

• Analysis and discussion of anger management exercises from weeks one through to four
• Identify and change your position on life using Cognitive Analytic Therapy
• Be familiar with the diagrammatic process of relating
• Understanding the need for escalating states of anger by recognising and acting on symptoms
• Learning how to make amends of the aftermath of anger
• Tasks for change: various exercises to assist in anger management

Week Six

• Analysis and discussion of anger management exercises from weeks one through to five
• CAT actions to free you from angry feelings and thoughts
• Bringing together all that you have learnt over the course
• Creating and maintaining a new outlook
• What does the future hold for you as an individual/couple

The six week Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) Eating Disorders Management Programme is for those individuals who want to learn how to gain a greater sense of control of their eating disorder. You may have experienced difficulty in coming to terms with managing a healthy eating plan and relationship with food, and feeling as though you have no control in getting this back on track. The CAT Eating Disorders Management Programme will teach you how to cope with and manage food restriction, binging, purging, stress related to eating and the strong emotions that arise when wanting to take more control of your eating disorder. Most importantly you’ll discover how to change the way you think about food so that you can live a healthy and balanced life through balanced emotions, behaviours and thoughts.

The Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) Eating Disorders Management Programme is conducted on a one-to-one basis to provide you a truly unique and beneficial experience.

Programme Overview

Week 1

• Learn how to use CAT techniques to prepare your mind and environment for taking more control of your eating healthily
• Create and Identify healthy diet plans
• Learn how to eat mindfully
• Remove personal temptations of using created “negative” food behaviours
• Reduce environmental triggers which may strengthen the eating disorder

Week 2

• Select an appropriate exercise plan for your BMI
• Set a realistic goal for weight gain and maintenance
• Develop a timetable for creating the time and energy to commit to your eating plan and exercise programme
• Identify sabotaging thoughts and patterns locking you into your cycle of harm
• Develop a CAT map to help you understand relational patterns of dysfunction
• Monitor and address hunger, desire and cravings and what this means when you take control and give into these urges.

Week 3

• Begin your diet management and exercise plan
• Learn how to monitor and be more mindful of your eating and exercise
• Control sabotaging thoughts and uncontrolled eating or restriction through your CAT map
• Learn to understand what your body needs and to trust your better judgement in relation to food
• Weigh in and reflection on targets

Week 4

• Learn advanced psychological techniques to understand Snags, Traps and Dilemmas encountered
• Develop an appropriate questioning style to help you deal with sabotaging thoughts and behaviours
• Recognise and challenge unhelpful thinking and behavioural patterns in relation to self and others
• Weigh in and reflection on targets

Week 5

• Discover how to resist restriction urges and stay in control of managing your new lifestyle
• Understand common phobias and anxiety around issues of travel and going out
• Understand how to eliminate emotional starvation/binging/purging
• Weigh in and reflection on targets

Week 6

• Make any necessary adjustments to your new ways of relating to food, others and self
• Understand and develop a strengthened confidence and sense of self
• Learn about various stages of recovery from eating disorders and how to manage and overcome them
• Review your exercise and eating plan
• Look at establishing renewed meaning in your life
• Weigh in and reflection on future targets
